Salisbury TIC, named 'Tourist
Information Centre of the Year 1998' by the English Tourist Board, well deserved
its accolade.
Among features highlighted for
special praise by the panel of England for Excellence judges were the
establishment of multi-lingual car park attendants, who are the city's
ambassadors for visitors, a dedicated coach drivers' restroom - and of course
their state-of-the-art tourism management software!
The busy TIC handles nearly 250,000 enquiries
every year, the bulk of which are from visitors looking for information on the
area, or making accommodation bookings. In addition, hundreds of enquiries are
received from locals, planning trips to other parts of the UK.
"CTV has looked after us for ten years, from
our first days with a single-user computer to our present system of four PCs on
the counter plus one back-office PC for statistics and reports" says TIC
manager Jane Fry."
"Enquiries about local information and
accommodation bookings from visitors coming to this area are dealt with on the
TIM market response module, while we use the AA Milemaster and BR Journey
Planner for itinerary planning and rail travel information for the UK.
"VisitIT software, used with pressure mats,
is invaluable when it comes to monitoring the flow of visitors to the Centre,
and means that I can plan our staffing schedules to cope with peaks of demand
during the hectic summer months."
