In our last issue, we
mentioned that Marilyn Wrench, manager of Hastings tourist information team, had
visited the Royal Windsor Information Centre to see how their CTV EPOS system
can be used to access tills, maintain stock control, and simultaneously tap into
any of the other CTV modules.
Marilyn told us: "With
nearly a quarter of a million visitors each year, our hardware and software have
to be up to scratch to cope with the demands we make on them."
Now read on . . .
"We have our EPOS system up and running now, and already I can see it's
going to be a Godsend," says Marilyn Wrench.
"We used to have a very complicated and
time-consuming way of checking stock levels but now it is just so easy."
"CTV installed the equipment quickly and
without disrupting our service to our customers, the council arranged for
modifications to our counters to fit in the till drawers, and the whole thing
went in very well."
" Sally from CTV trained us in using the new
system, and she also created and input all our initial stock levels, ancillary
records and bar codes."
"On top of that, she stayed on for the first
day we used the EPOS system to 'hold our hands' and talk us through any
last-minute queries."
All the Hastings transactions can be accessed
from Marilyn's PC, whether they're from the four PCs downstairs in the
Information Centre or from the single PC at the Old Town information point.
This means that Marilyn can see just how much to keep out on display, or exactly
when the shelves need to be topped up.
Said Marilyn: "The EPOS system also means
each of our workstations can be used as a till, rather than having to queue up
at the single till we used to have, so our customers get Best Value by not
having to wait.
"It's far better for our customers, and as
Hastings is the current holder of the England For Excellence Award, we want to
give the best service we can."
